  1. How do CBD Distillate, CBD Isolate, and Full Spectrum Differ?

Now that cannabidiol CBD is so popular and legal in every state, it may be important to understand the differences between the various types of CBD given some have THC and some do not.

In relation to CBD products like tinctures, dog treats, and teas, you may have heard words such as isolate and distillate on product listings, and maybe you’re unsure of the differences, as well as which would best suite your needs. It is important to understand what these words mean and how they affect the product and you.

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol. CBD is just one of the many compounds found in the cannabis plant, and unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive effects whatsoever.

Products which have CBD take many different forms such as CBD oil and edibles, as well as many other CBD products. CBD Hemp products have been known to provide many benefits to people.

Let’s take a look at exactly what CBD manufacturers mean when they refer to CBD products as isolates, distillates, and full spectrum CBD products.

What is a CBD Distillate?

CBD distillates are not as refined and therefore are not as pure as CBD isolates. A CBD distillate may contain various cannabinoids such as terpenes and plant material. CBD distillate is the precursor to isolate and could be further refined even more to become a CBD isolate.

While some people may not care for the taste, terpenes and cannabinoids found in distillates can be both healthy and beneficial for the body. A CBD Distillate is found in an oil form and has a hempy taste and smell.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is CBD in its most pure form, is isolated cannabidiol. Oftentimes products such as vape cartridges and gummies, as well as other ingestible’s are made of isolate as there’s little to no taste.

Isolates are completely devoid of terpenes, and non-CBD cannabinoids like THC and organic matter. This leaves pure CBD which should have no taste or smell. CBD Isolate is a white powder that is dissolved into the product.

CBD isolates make a very versatile product which can be used in edibles and oils without adding any flavor and while still maintaining its potency. A CBD isolate is great for someone who doesn’t like the earthy or plant matter flavors or tastes which come with many traditional oils and edibles.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

Full spectrum means that an oil or product contains all the cannabinoids that are naturally occurring in the cannabis plant. Quality full spectrum CBD products are typically high in CBD, with only trace amounts of minor cannabinoids, and very low in THC. Despite these relatively low amounts, the overall composition is considered “full spectrum” and is synonymous with the “entourage effect”, which refers to the increased effectiveness of these products due to the different cannabinoids working synergistically. Full spectrum products are commonly considered more effective than products that are CBD isolate derived.
